When Bridget ran for office in 2010, she anticipated bringing a fresh professional approach to government in the Town of Southampton. As a member of the Southampton Town Council, she has dedicated her time and attention to three areas that she believes are critical to the East End: environmental stewardship, economic opportunity, and government accountability.
As a member of the Council, Bridget serves as liaison to Southampton’s Green Committee, the Housing Authority, Code Enforcement, and the Justice Court, as well as the hamlets of Flanders and Noyac. Since being elected, she has helped to appoint and support a full-time Sustainability Coordinator; has spearheaded the Farm Fresh Food Project, which will create a teen-run project to bring produce from local farms to areas of the Town that don’t have access to fresh foods; and serves on the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee, whose creation she championed along with Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst. Bridget has fought to defend conservation land and protective zoning, and aggressively pursued open space acquisitions, while holding the line on taxpayer expenses. She has worked for the implementation of financial safeguards and sound contracting practices.
After graduating from the University of Virginia Law School in 1991, Bridget worked for ten years as an assistant district attorney to Robert Morgenthau in Manhattan. As Assistant D.A., she was Chief of the office's Welfare Fraud Unit, which prevented, investigated, and prosecuted fraud in public programs. Since leaving the D.A.'s office in 2001, her legal work has focused on Matrimonial and Family Law as well as professional mediation. Along with her duties on the Town Board, she currently runs a law practice on Main Street in Sag Harbor.
Bridget has been a resident of Noyac, in the Town of Southampton, since 2001, when she moved here with her husband Bob, a local contractor, to start a family. Fleming and her husband have one son, Jai, who attends Sag Harbor Elementary School.
